Music Education for Teachers
Village Music Circles™ provides Teachers and Educators with the techniques and skill to bring music education into the classroom. Regardless of personal music experience, teachers will learn a model for facilitating interactive rhythm experiences that integrate music education and expressive arts with communication, motivation and community building. Village Music Circles trainings are based on the pioneering Rhythm Facilitation work defined by Arthur Hull.
Village Music Circles Communities in Rhythm™ program offers an experiential approach to music education using the whole person in a community context. Teachers will discover a unique experience that achieves the National Music Education Standards and can be applied to all student levels from K-12 and beyond.
Village Music Circles experiences are designed to stimulate a non-competitive, natural response to rhythm, The intended consequences of community music making produce an environment that creates a natural sense of inclusion among the participants. A respect for diversity is developed and a deepened experience of community building is achieved.
Music Education Objectives
Village Music Circles™ provides Teachers with:
- A musical experience integrating rhythm, improv, melody, and movement
- Guided explorations for non-competitive musical self-expression;
- Utilization of pitch, melody, and rhythm to create a community song
- Skills for strengthening student focus, concentration and musicianship;
- A technique for facilitating students to become musicians themselves;
- An exciting expressive-arts experience for creativity and learning;
- A motivational experience that will captivate attention and build communication skills;
- A process for inspiring self and community awareness through playing music together.
National Standards for Music Education
Upon completing a Village Music Circles™ Training teachers will be able to:
- Perform a varied repertoire of music on a variety of instruments;
- Improvise melodies, variations & accompaniments;
- Listen, analyze and describe music;
- Evaluate music and music performance;
- Understand relationships between music and disciplines outside of the arts;
- Understand music in relation to history and culture;
- Demonstrate skills in high performance leadership.
