Kick off your conference experience with a deep dive into rhythm, learning, and community. The Village Music Circles 2-Day Drum Circle Facilitator’s Playshop provides a hands-on entry into the art of leading rhythm-based events and community drum circles.

Based on the community empowerment model developed by Arthur Hull and Village Music Circles™, this program introduces the core principles and skills of drum circle facilitation in an engaging and supportive environment. Participants will explore the fundamentals of rhythm, learn key facilitation techniques, and experience the joy of guiding a group toward its collective musical potential.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Learn basic facilitator rhythm fundamentals — how to create a supportive environment, use rhythm for interactive dialogue, and understand how musicality supports group development.
  • Practice core facilitation techniques for starting, stopping, and guiding a group through musical growth.
  • Develop awareness of how facilitation, listening, and group dynamics shape rhythm experiences.
  • Engage in hands-on facilitation practice in small and large groups with real-time feedback.
  • Understand how drum circles can build connection, inspire creativity, and support community well-being.

Who Should Attend

This workshop welcomes anyone interested in using rhythm to bring people together — educators, therapists, musicians, facilitators, and community leaders. No musical experience is required. Bring your curiosity, openness, and willingness to participate.

Benefits

Participants will leave with:

  • The foundational tools and mindset of drum circle facilitation with techniques and tools used for over 40 years by Village Music Circles.
  • Practical experience to begin leading rhythm-based events with confidence and creativity.
  • Insights into how music, leadership, and communication intertwine to create connection.
  • A clear understanding of the next steps for ongoing learning through Village Music Circles™ advanced trainings.
  • A renewed sense of energy, joy, and community that extends beyond the circle itself.

Led by Trainers Arthur Hull & Jim Boneau

Arthur and Jim will guide the Playshop, introducing participants to the essential mindset, tools, and techniques of drum circle facilitation. Through a mix of demonstration, practice, and reflection, Jim and Arthur will help participants build confidence in leading rhythm-based experiences that foster connection and creativity.

Together, Arthur and Jim provide a complete and inspiring introduction to Drum Circles Facilitation— combining the leadership and facilitation practices that bring a circle to life with the rhythmic and musical foundations that make it sing.

This workshop is also a wonderful way to get an early start to the conference — whether you’re new and eager to learn more about drum circle facilitation, ready to refresh your skills after some time away, or simply want to arrive early to enjoy the music, community, and time with Jim and Arthur.
